Our feature album for July 2008 To be advised.
Around The Traps
- The new JOURNEY album 'Revelation' is getting good feedback, and good sales through the Billboard Charts. The band are currently on tour throughout the UK and Europe, and things are going well.
- Not going so well is the ambitious and totally over blown JUDAS PRIEST album 'Nostradamus'. Feedback across the Internet isn't that flash unfortunately - despite the apparent huge marketing push by their label. Not quite sure if the band and their fans are reading off the same page.. mmm..
- We have a handful of continental European releases coming our way shortly. From France, we reacquaint ourselves with melodic metallers ALKEMYST who made such a big impression on us back in 2003 with their Nuclear Blast release 'Meeting In The Mist'. Their newie is called 'Through Painful Lanes'.
- LA metallers SILENT RAGE release their brand new album and first in five years - 'Four Letter Word'.
More news as we hear it..
Interviews
Coming up shortly we have interviews with Mario Percudani from Italian rockers HUNGRY HEART, we speak with Greek vocalist JOHN JEFF TOUCH, and talk about his debut album 'First Touch', and we are in the process of putting together a two-part interview with new sensations MARCELLO VESTRY.
Site News
- We have included a couple of new writers to the GLORY-DAZE stable. More details in a few days.
- The online Videos are being rejigged to a better flash video player. Gradually, all the videos will be updated to the new format. We are currently chipping away at them bit by bit.
- All of our review pages are in the process of being encrypted. It's a slow process, and again, we are gradually chipping away through our Year based review sections.

| Bee Gees plot comeback |
The surviving Bee Gees are eyeing a return to the stage - five years after the death of their brother and band-mate Maurice Gibb.
Gibb passed away in 2003 at the age of 53 after suffering complications from a twisted intestine - and his death devastated his two siblings Robin and Barry.
The pair only played one show together after their brother died, preferring instead to focus on their solo work.
But now Robin has admitted that the emotional wounds are slowly healing and they are now preparing to make a comeback as a duo.
However, he admits they are likely to stick to their decision to retire the Bee Gees name out of respect for their late brother.
He says: "We decided that on an emotional level at that point. Whether or not that will change, we don't know. It's a personal thing and we'll do it when the time is right. So it's not a no, it's just emotionally when it's right."

| Def Leppard to play Auckland's Vodafone Arena |
British rock band Def Leppard have announced they will play a single New Zealand show in November.
Def Leppard will perform at Auckland's Vector Arena on November 14, supported by Australian act The Galvatrons.
It will be their first show in New Zealand since 1992.
The tour will support the band's recent album, Songs From the Sparkle Lounge, but fans will probably know them more for earlier albums like Pyromania, Hysteria and Adrenalize.
Their biggest singles are Pour Some Sugar On Me, Love Bites, Rocket, Rock Of Ages, Armageddon It and Let’s Get Rocked.
The band's drummer, Rick Allen, famously only has one arm.
Tickets for the show go on sale on July 9. |

| Metallica new album title: 'Death Magnetic' |
Metallica's new album will be titled Death Magnetic and is expected in September.
The news was revealed over the weekend via the band's website, www.metallica.com.
No new material has been played live at the band's handful of recent shows, but British journalists have heard rough mixes of six untitled songs, several of which cross the seven-minute mark.
Death Magnetic (Warner Bros.) was produced by Rick Rubin and is the follow-up to 2003's St Anger, which has sold 1.76 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Following its Friday headlining slot at the Bonnaroo festival in Manchester, Tennessee, the band is taking a month off before hitting the European festival circuit through late July. |

| Universal loses promo CD battle |
Music giant Universal Music Group has lost a court battle to stop an eBay trader from reselling promotional CDs he had bought from second hand stores. Troy Augusto makes money by snapping up rare albums and selling them on the online auction site. Universal accused him of copyright infringement, saying some of the items he offered were promotional copies and not authorised for sale to the public. But a US judge ruled that Mr Augusto had the right to sell the CDs.

In a few words, if this record is not a part of your collection yet, you should obtain it at once, as it represents a memorial of the hard melodic metal scene that can hardly be repeated.

This is one of the the most consistent albums many are likely to hear, and an above average foray into late 70's AOR, containing 'I Want You Tonight' a marginal hit.

Silent Rage safely have a port in a storm on this website should they ever need one. I've been a fan of theirs right from the early daze, our reviews cover all their albums. After hearing their 2008 comeback album 'Four Letter Word', the band should seriously seek shelter because without question, this album goes sadly to the bottom of their catalogue.

John's breathy vocal cuts through on all tracks. In places where he rocks out, comparisons can be made to Kip Winger's solo work or perhaps Oliver Hartmann, or Michele Luppi. Elsewhere, I can hear a bit of Freddie Mercury and Robbie Williams, where power, emotion and a flair for the dramatic seem to prevail among his songs..

1989 Articles |

The band, well known for their obsession with things to do with the occult, went for the jugular on this album. The satanic and occultish themes were well covered on just about every song. Despite such leanings, ' Headless Cross' is an incredible slab of melodic metal from The Sabbs, the production huge, the playing from all involved goes beyond the call.

1977 Articles |

With 'Magic Is A Child', Nektar moved away from their prog rock origins in search of hard rock and dare we say, AOR pursuits. Naturally this left Nektar fans scratching their collective heads and dismissing this as crap, though those on hard rock boundaries would say otherwise..

In my opinion Journey never made a heavier album. The double guitar attack of Schon and George Tickner is something to behold and with Rolie's grinding organ and keyboard work, 'Journey' is nothing short of a progressive rock monster.

Charlie's third album 'Lines' was something of a breakthrough in the American market with the minor hit 'She Loves To Be In Love'. Despite their hard work, the previous album 'No Second Chance' failed to chart in a big way. 'Lines' changed all that and thirty years later the album still holds up as one of Charlie's best.

Unlike their later efforts which ended up being very tough Californian metal in the vein of Y&T and Lion, 'Shattered Hearts' lies closer in spirit to AOR and melodic rock, one can assume the band being only two years old, still had a lot to learn with locking down their sound and style.
